WWII US Navy diary.Named sailor diary to James E. Hamilton Jr.
Listed as served on USS Henderson AP1, LCI 82, LCI 347. Photos, papers, menus, Japanese surrender leaflet, other Japanese papers. These are taped in and haven't been opened. Other papers loose, loose photos, ID card, etc. 5 pages of addresses 18 pages of written diary pages including detailed combat experiences. Beginning diary has 13 pages of blank pages captioned photo of either "Dad", "Dad & Mom" or "Mom". Appear he removed them. Starts March 30,1944 leaving Pearl Harbor thru Majuro, Kwajalein, Eniwetok, Saipan, June 15, 1944, mentions heavy japanese mortar,machine gun artillery fire. Mentions Japanese bomber scored hit on LST and they fought fires alongside. Invaded Tinian in July and had heavy enemy machine gun mortar fire. Solomon's, Peleliu, Sep15,1944. Mentions firing 506 rockets at scarlet beach.1st marine division. Spotted floating mines while on patrol duty. Sept 23 intercepted and sunk 13 jap barges laden with 700 japanese and ammo trying to re-enforce Peleliu. October 22 picked up wounded Jap soldier in homemade raft. LCI 600 blew up from mine at anchor. Okinawa invasion April 1, 1945. LCI 82 investigated downed Japanese plane with 3 surviving pilots who they thought was dead but rose up upon approach throwing grenades. Suicide torpedo boat rammed the LCI Ended up taking wounded prisoners from water. Diary ends Sept 3, 1945. Interesting entries between the above highlights. Aircraft attacks/action,Betty bombers, etc, etc. Some captioned pages of missing Mom Dad photos. Never been used pages blanks as well. Above average diary. Some obvious age use as this was used, day to day. No returns for paper items for obvious reasons.
