I am a lifelong Detroit Tiger fan who grew up following the Tigers during the 1950s and 1960s.  EVERY warm and humid summer evening, I would listen to the games on the radio with the neighborhood kids. Between innings we were out in the yard ‘replaying’ the previous inning. I saw my first game at Briggs Stadium September 27, 1959.  The ‘Go Go’ White Sox were on their way to the World Series and the Tigers were 18 games out and in fourth place.  But I did get to see a triple play that day.  That game stirred the imagination of a young boy, whose dream was to grow up and be a Tiger !  Over the years, I collected a store model glove for every player on 1959 Tigers, except for Larry Doby.
Alas, my three children are grown with one following the Oakland Raiders, one is a pro snowboarder and one could care less about sports.  Notice that there are no Tiger fans in the group.  So I am making my ‘collection’ available to another Tiger fan.  A fan who can appreciate and enjoy the eccentricities of this Detroit Tiger Collection.

This group consists of
three 1950s Detroit Tiger  gloves
(one Spalding, one Wilson and one MacGregor). These gloves are considered RARE (
Bolling
- first model located), VERY RARE (
Lepcio
1 of 2 located) and COMMON (
Zernial
).  All three gloves were made in the during the 1950s.
GUS  ZERNIAL  Glove
Zernial joined the Tigers in 1958 and finished his career with them in 1959, primarily as a pinch hitter.   “Ozark Ike” was one of the AL’s most feared hitters and he led the AL in Hrs and RBIs in 1951.  Zernial was an All Star, twice received MVP votes and had a most respectable 11 year career.
The glove is a very nice
MacGREGOR Autograph Model G24
.  This is a quality glove.  The glove condition is
EX/EX+
, perhaps, a little better, the stamping is good, the leather is supple, there is an excellent MacGregor cloth label,  the glove has leather piping which is in very good condition, there is a little ‘checking’ inside the palm and thumb areas and the entire glove is original.  There is no writing on the glove. The glove has been used but cared for during its life and it displays very nicely.  It retailed for around .00 in the line-up of MacGregor gloves that ranged from .95 to .00.  It is in great shape ... it could be used today!
FRANK   BOLLING  Glove
Bolling joined the Tigers in 1954 and was with the Bengals through 1960, as there second baseman.   Bolling was an excellent fielding second baseman.  He was an 4x All Star, twice received MVP votes and earned a Gold Glove during a most respectable 12 year career.
The glove is a very nice
SPALDING Professional Model 42-223
.  This is a quality glove.  The glove condition is
EX/EX+
, perhaps, a little better, the stamping is good, the leather is in very good condition though a little ‘stiff’, there is an excellent Spalding cloth label with a touch of wear,  the glove has leather piping which is in generally  good condition, there is no  ‘checking’ inside the palm and thumb areas and the entire glove is original.  There is some black felt pen scribbling on the wrist strap, next to the cloth label. The glove has been used but cared for during its life and it displays very nicely.  All Frank Bolling gloves are considered
RARE
and this is the first 42-223 model ever located.  It probably retailed for around .95 in the line-up of Spalding gloves that ranged from .75 to .95.  It is in great shape ... it could be used today!
Ted   LEPCIO  Glove
Lepcio joined the Tigers in 1959, as a utility infielder and proceded to have his best season.
The glove is a very nice
WILSON Ball Hawk Model A2970
.  This is a youth model glove.  The glove condition is
EX/EX+
, perhaps, a little better, the stamping is good, there is a fair amount of ‘silver’ remaining in stamping, the leather is in very good condition and supple, there is no cloth label on this youth glove, just stamping,  the glove has plastic piping which is in generally very good condition, there is a little  ‘checking’ inside the ring finger and the entire glove is original.  There is no writing on the glove. The glove has been used but cared for during its life and it displays very nicely.  All Ted Lepcio gloves are considered
VERY RARE
and this only 1 of 2 ever located.  It  retailed for around .45 in the line-up of Wilson gloves that ranged from .95 to .00.  It is in great shape ... it could be used today!
